Foreword: Sofia is one of the Serafigkou sisters. The Serafigkou family are esteemed for their keen sense of entrepreneurship and style. Her sister, Eva, has been managing the Pandora gift shop on Kardamili high street for over 15 years, a business that she took over from their father and modernised. Sofia and her husband Panagiotis, a professional musician, have been running the 1866 Beer Bar ever since 2012. Panagiotis is one of the key figures behind the beginnings of the Kardamili Jazz Festival. Sofia is the embodiment of the modern Maniot female: beautiful, clever, diligent, hard-working, with understated elegance and poise.

How long have you been running your business?
Sofia: Διατηρώ το μαγαζί από το καλοκαίρι του 2012.
Economic reasons aside, what inspired you to start your enterprise?
Sofia: Αρχικά τα προηγούμενα συναφή επαγγέλματα μου, καθώς και η αγάπη μου για τον τουρισμό και την διασκέδαση.
Your business is special and unique, because…?
Sofia: Σε ένα νεοανερχόμενο είδος διασκέδασης, το μεράκι μου και η αφοσίωση μου την κάνουν μοναδική.
What aspect is most challenging (with respect to its management)?
Sofia: Οι μεγάλες ευθύνες της δουλειάς αυτής ίσως να είναι ο μεγαλύτερος διαχειριστικός φόρτος.
And what’s the oddest request you’ve ever had from a customer?
Sofia: Τα request των πελατών όσο παράξενα και αν φαίνονται είναι πάντα σεβαστά. Παραταύτα, η μπύρα σερβιρισμένη σε σφηνάκι είναι ότι πιο περίεργο μπορώ να θυμηθώ.
