Iliolithos Jewelry by Sofia Hatzopoulou, Craftsman
Foreword: Sofia is one of the Hatzopoulou sisters. The Hatzopoulou family are esteemed for their keen sense of artistry and independence. Along with her sister, Ifigenia, she had for over 20 years been managing Ifigenia’s in Kardamili, a hospitality business that they inherited from their mother and modernised. She now manages her own accommodation, Iliolithos. Sofia has been working at her atélier Iliolithos Jewelry ever since 2009, creating unique items for her own collections, as well as handcrafting bespoke bijoux for special events such as weddings. Sofia is the embodiment of the modern Maniot female: beautiful, clever, diligent, hard-working, with understated elegance and poise.
In a brief sentence, tell us a little bit about your enterprise.
Sofia: Μια ατομικη επιχειρηση, καλλιτεχνικης αναζητησης και δημιουργιας με στοχο την κατασκευη χειροποιητου κοσμηματος.
How long have you been running your business?
Sofia: Σχεδον 7 χρονια εχει μια ανοδικη πορεια στο χωρο του κι εχει μεταφερθει τον τελευταιο χρονο απο Καλαματα-Καρδαμυλη, οπου ειναι και ο τοπος καταγωγης της δημιουργου του.
Economic reasons aside, what inspired you to start your enterprise?
Sofia: Η αναγκη εκφρασης, αναζητησης κι αγαπης για δημιουργια χειροποιητου κοσμηματος.
Your business is special and unique, because…?
Sofia: Ειναι μοναδικη, διοτι τα κοσμηματα που δημιουργουνται εδω ειναι ιδιαιτερα και μοναδικα.
What aspect is most challenging (with respect to its management)?
Sofia: Θα ελεγα το θεμα προβολης διοτι βασιζεται σε τουριστικο κυριως κοινο κι υπαρχουν καποιοι "νεκροι" μηνες.
And what’s the oddest request you’ve ever had from a customer?
Sofia: Δεν υπαρχει κατι ιδιαιτερο να θυμαμαι, ομως σιγουρα ειναι προκληση για μενα η ιδεα ενος κοσμηματος που εχει καποιος στο μυαλο του εως την υλοποιηση της.
